Well the title above is actually my topic for my compo. I just want to share it with my readers. So what do you think is health??? Health is basically the condition of the body and how healthy you are.(Qoute from Longman Dictionary) Health is such a crucial aspect in life such that without it, one could not carry out their daily life activities normally. Take for example, a businessman. Without being healthy, he is unable to carry out duties well. Probably this will make him feel sick. As such, he is unable to meet his clients and therefore, his business will be affected. When this happens, he will have lesser income and will lead to a poor standard of living. By the previous example given, we can now better understand the importance of health. Schools played an important role in promoting health. In the subsequent paragraphs, I shall elaborate further about some efforts that schools could do to help to promote health.
One of them is to conduct Physical Education(PE) during Co-Curriculum time. By doing so, students will get to exercise and therefore it promotes health among the students. As we know, students have been isolated in the classroom for so long. They should rest their brain muscles after heavy lessons like maths and science. I am sure that after exercising, they will feel more refreshed and most likely be able to concentrate better in the later subjects. In my opinion, PE lessons should be conducted at least twice a week. This will definitely boost the unlikely rate of obesity in schools. When there is less obese students in schools, the schools have shown that they had done their part in promoting health.
However, the reduce in the rate of obese students in schools is not enough to prove that health is being promoted. Another way of promoting health in schools is through food and personal hygiene. This are the two major aspects of promoting health in schools. Where food is concern, the stall vendors should reduce in selling food which contains a lot of oil. From what we have learnt from the food pyramid, we should eat less carbohydrate but more of dairy products. (e.g milk, cheese) Maybe, once a week, school should colaborate events like "Healthy Week" where only healthy food are sold on that day. In one way or another, it will helped in educating the students to have healthy eating habits.
Events like ACES day have been celebrated nationally to educate the public on the awareness of health. This day is recognised as a day to exercise and to eat healthily.Normally, this day is being celebrated by having workouts where students and teachers alike exercise intensively.
In conclusion, I would like to say that health is an important matter and it should not be taken for granted. Let me leave you with this qoute: " Not all healthy people are fit, not all fit people are healthy"
